SUMMARY:YAF As-Built: Walking Sketch Tour
DESCRIPTION:Join Blake McDonland\, an Architectural Historian at Historic Richmond for a hands-on\, 1-mile walking sketch tour through Monroe Ward. Together\, we’ll visit roughly 12 historic sites to examine how urban architecture directly impacts human health\, safety\, and community welfare. Along the way\, we’ll pull out our sketchbooks to capture Art Deco and Modern facades while analyzing how entryways\, lighting\, and building scales shape pedestrian comfort. We’ll also visit landmarks like The Jefferson Hotel to uncover how LGBTQIA+ history shaped the city’s footprint. This interactive walk equips architects\, designers\, and history buffs of all drawing skill levels with practical strategies to break down spatial barriers\, honor community memory\, and design safer\, more inclusive public spaces. \n\n\n\nLearning Objectives: \n\n\n\nApply lessons from historic community resilience to contemporary practice\, articulating how architects and urban designers can actively preserve cultural memory and design more inclusive\, equitable civic spaces. \n\n\n\n Analyze the intersection of LGBTQIA+ history and local urban development by identifying key sites\, spaces\, and landmarks that have historically served as hubs for queer community building\, activism\, and expression. \n\n\n\nEnhance field-sketching and graphic recording skills by translating spatial relationships\, architectural details\, and character-defining features of historic structures into quick observational drawings. \n\n\n\nExamine how the built environment fosters or restricts inclusive public space\, evaluating how architectural elements (such as sightlines\, boundaries\, entry points\, and gathering areas) impact accessibility\, safety\, and community identity. \n\n\n\n \n \n 2026 – YAF Sketching RVA\n Registration Form \n \n NameThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email(Required)\n \n Firm/Organization Name

SUMMARY:Park(ing) Day
DESCRIPTION:This year is the 20th anniversary of Park(ing) Day!  Park(ing) day is a global\, public\, participatory project where people across the world temporarily repurpose curbside parking spaces and convert them into public parks and social spaces to advocate for safer\, greener\, and more equitable streets for people.  \n\n\n\nGet your team together to create a parklet within existing Richmond street parking for a day.  First design your parklet thinking about ground cover\, enclosure\, seating\, interaction\, shade\, and constructability.  Next identify a location for your installation (street parking with all day parking)  and claim your spot on September 19th.  Finally construct your parklet to enjoy for the day.   \n\n\n\nFor more information visit www.myparkingday.org or reach out to shea@mwlarchitects.com \n\n\n\n \n \n 2026 – Park(ing) Day\n Register to join us. \n \n CompanyThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email(Required)\n \n Firm/Org Name

SUMMARY:8th Annual Clay Shoot presented by Poole & Poole Architecture
DESCRIPTION:Join us for AIA Richmond’s 8th Annual Sporting Clay Classic presented by Poole & Poole Architecture and organized by the Allied Member Committee. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCompetition Format \n\n\n\nThis year’s competition will feature two flights running simultaneously on separate courses. The new format will create a more challenging experience while giving participants more opportunities to connect with others in the industry. \n\n\n\nShooters will compete against others at a similar skill level. Participants may register individually or as a team of four. Team members will still be scored individually\, and an additional prize will be awarded to the top-performing team. \n\n\n\nSchedule \n\n\n\nRegistration and the required safety briefing begin at 8:30am. The competition starts at 10am. \n\n\n\nLunch will be served beginning at 11:45am and will feature the Thomas Family recipe Brunswick stew\, barbecue\, and all the fixings. Cold beverages will also be provided. Barbecue and Brunswick stew will be available for purchase at the event. \n\n\n\nAwards and raffle drawings will take place during lunch\, with additional time for networking and socializing. \n\n\n\nShooter packs\, raffle tickets\, and course mulligans will also be available for purchase. \n\n\n\nSponsorship opportunities \n\n\n\nPoole & Poole Architecture is returning as the title sponsor for the eighth year. \n\n\n\nAdditional sponsorship opportunities include: \n\n\n\n\nLunch sponsor: $250 (3 available)\n\n\n\nTrap sponsor: $100 each (22 available)\n\n\n\nPrize sponsor: $250 each (2 available)\n\n\n\nBeverage and hydration cart sponsor: $300 each (2 available)\n\n\n\nAmmunition sponsor: $1\,000 each (3 available)\n\n\n\n\nThis tournament is a great chance to get out of the office and meet industry colleagues (and test your skills in the process). All skill levels welcome\, as you compete against others in your experience level. All proceeds for this event will go toward the K-12 and Scholarship programs for AIA Richmond. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n
