Historic Preservation Project Architect
Richmond | Glavé & Holmes Architecture

Glavé & Holmes is seeking a skilled and passionate Historic Preservation Architect to join our Historic Preservation Studio. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in architectural design and team leadership with specialized experience in historic preservation, adaptive reuse, and contextual design.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preservation-Focused Project Leadership: Lead architectural projects with a focus on historic preservation and adaptive reuse, from concept through completion.
  • Documentation & Construction Administration: Lead the project team in producing detailed construction documents and specifications, including those required for preservation approvals and historic tax credits.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure projects meet local, state, and federal preservation guidelines, including those set by the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.
  • Mentorship & Studio Culture: Mentor junior staff in preservation practices and contribute to a collaborative, mission-driven studio environment.

Qualifications:

  • Professional degree in Architecture (B.Arch or M.Arch).
  • Licensed Architect
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in architectural practice, focused on historic preservation or adaptive reuse.
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and 3D modeling software (e.g., Rhino, SketchUp).
  • Strong understanding of traditional building systems, materials, and preservation techniques.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

Construction Administrator

The Senior Construction Administrator leads the construction phase of complex projects, ensuring that all fieldwork aligns with design intent, contract documents, building codes, and client expectations. This position acts as the primary point of contact during construction, coordinating closely with owners, contractors, consultants, and internal design teams to proactively manage quality, schedule, and budget.
Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the Design team and field operations throughout construction.
  • Review submittals, respond to RFIs, and prepare detailed field observation reports.
  • Conduct regular site visits to verify conformance with approved design and documentation.
  • Coordinate directly with clients, contractors, and consultants to resolve design issues and maintain clear communication.
  • Assess payment applications, evaluate change orders, and maintain accurate project records.
  • Identify and track construction deficiencies through resolution.
  • Maintain accurate records of drawing updates a updates and revisions.
    Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of construction administration experience with an architectural firm.
  • Experience with complex residential and concrete construction projects required.
  • Proficiency in Revit preferred.
  • Experience with precast concrete garage components, NAVFAC, Design Build, or multi-family projects a plus.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and manage multiple projects concurrently.

Work Environment

  • Field-based onsite position with active, continuous involvement in daily project site operations.
